Which Lake Is Your Dock On?

Lake Travis moves more than 50 feet between drought and flood, so docks there float on long anchor cables and go through the LCRA. Lake Austin holds a constant level inside the city limits, so fixed docks on piers are an option and the City of Austin reviews the permit as well. Each lake has its own page with current water levels, permit rules, dock types and pricing.

What Does a Custom Dock Cost in Austin?

Most custom docks we build on Lake Travis and Lake Austin land between $45,000 and $150,000. A single-slip aluminum floating dock starts around $45,000. A two-slip dock with a boat lift and upper deck usually runs $85,000 to $150,000. Boathouses and large covered docks on Lake Austin go higher. Lake, permit fees, materials and lift choice drive the final number. See the full breakdown in our Texas dock pricing guide, or call us for a quote on your shoreline.

Experience That Builds Better Docks

Longhorn Docks grew out of Longhorn Pro Builders, our custom home and renovation company. Years of managing crews and subcontractors on Hill Country builds taught us how to run a job on time and on budget. Clients with lake homes started asking us to build their docks, and we said yes.

The turning point came on Lake Travis. We watched a wood dock next to one of our clients fall apart in a few seasons while the aluminum dock we built held firm. That settled it. We switched to aluminum frames and composite decking for every build, so our clients get a dock that lasts decades instead of one that needs major repair in five years.
Today our crew has finished hundreds of projects across Central Texas, including dozens of docks on Lake Travis and Lake Austin, and we still run one project at a time.

Why Austin Homeowners Pick Longhorn Docks

We build in aluminum, not wood. Aluminum frames do not rot, warp or feed carpenter ants, and they hold up through Lake Travis level swings and Lake Austin wake traffic for decades.

We run one project at a time. Your crew stays on your dock from the first piling to the final cleat, so the schedule we give you is the schedule you get.

Longhorn Docks is part of Longhorn Pro Builders, Google Guaranteed and BBB accredited. We pull the LCRA or City of Austin permit for you, and we answer the phone when you call.

Questions Austin Homeowners Ask Before Building a Dock

Yes. Every new dock on Lake Travis needs an LCRA permit, and every new dock on Lake Austin needs a City of Austin permit. We handle the drawings, the application and the inspections for you. LCRA permits usually take four to eight weeks. City of Austin permits run longer, often three to six months, so we start that paperwork the day you sign.

Plan on six to twelve weeks from signed contract to finished dock on Lake Travis, and three to seven months on Lake Austin because of the longer permit cycle. Once the permit clears, the build itself takes two to four weeks for most docks. We run one project at a time, so your crew stays on your dock until it is done.

For Central Texas lakes, yes. Aluminum frames do not rot, splinter, warp or attract carpenter ants, and they weigh less, so they float higher and ride level swings better. A wood dock costs less up front but usually needs major repair within ten years. An aluminum dock with composite decking should last 30 years or more with almost no maintenance.

We build and repair docks on Lake Travis and Lake Austin, including Lakeway, Jonestown, Spicewood, Point Venture, Volente, Westlake, Steiner Ranch and Tarrytown. We also take projects on Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Inks Lake and Lake Buchanan. See our service areas page for the full list.
